So this was the first week of fantasy football and all the projections had me losing to “Team Richey.” Granted everyone is going to probably lose one game of fantasy throughout the season, but it was opening week and, “Team Richey,” is my girlfriend…so needless to say, I immediately started searching for ways to make my roster better. I needed a new wide receiver but most of the good ones had been picked up and I had to go with some skeptical picks such as Jabar Gaffney, of the Denver Broncos and Jonny Knox, of the Chicago Bears. Not huge picks but I felt like they were better than rookie, Mike Williams of the Tampa Bay “Shmuckaneers” and problem ridden, Devin Hestor of the Chicago Bears. So I picked them up along with a new back-up quarterback, Mr. Carson Palmer of the Cincinnati Bengals. After my roster changes were complete I had to decide if I was going to take a risk and put these new receivers in, or if I should go with more of a “sure bet” like, Pierre Garcon of the Indianapolis Colts and Anquan Boldin of the Baltimore Ravens. After Thursday night’s game between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings I was getting beaten pretty bad. I had one person in this game, Percy Harvin of the Minnesota Vikings who got me a whopping 1-point. She had Brett Favre who didn’t have a very great game and only got her 8-points which isn’t really a lot for a quarterback. So Sunday began and I was already in a hole with her Patriots defense dominating my Cincinnati Bengals. It looked really bad until half time when Cincinnati decided to start scoring a little bit. The one man I needed to come through for sure was, Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. And like he always used to before his knee got destroyed, he came through for me. Twenty-two points! This started to get me back into it but I needed something else. I needed a wide receiver to come up big or for my tight end, Dallas Clark of the Indianapolis Colts. Jabar Gaffney couldn’t of helped more with a nice touchdown grab and 35 yards for 9 points, and Johnny Knox brought in a couple passes for 52 yards and 5 points. But leave it to the crafty veteran Dallas Clark to have 80 yards receiving and a touchdown. My man! Things were looking good for me but I couldn’t take Miss Richey out of the game because she had the superstar himself, Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans who got 26 points with over 140 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Yikes…My kicker was pretty even with hers, mine had 9 points and hers had 7 but it was going to come down to the afternoon game between the Green Bay Packer and the Philadelphia Eagles. I had Philadelphia’s running back and Richey had DeSean Jackson, an all-pro wide receiver from Philly, as well as their tight end. Somehow, someway I ended up taking the most points. Kevin Kolb getting injured which brought in Michael Vick changed Philly’s game plan from throwing to running and their running back brought me 13 points for me to end up winning by 10 points. That one was too close for comfort; I need to make some trades…
