A Much Longer Than Wanted Labor Day Trip To Ohio
So this weekend was a great weekend, as we all know. The marvelous first 3 day weekend of the semester, and if you were lucky you even got your Friday off too. So for my holiday I decided to go to my old home of Springfield, Ohio to attend my friend's wedding. The wedding was very nice, outdoors, cool, and a beautiful background. After the wedding was of course the reception, which was filled with tons of hand shakes and hello's from people I haven't seen in ten years. Of course, with my luck we got stuck at a table with the cross-dressing, drunken, swingers of the town, which seems to be frowned upon in most societies and you know what they say guilty by association right. Man did I get some looks from people that were attending the reception, who were in complete aw that we would even be associated with these kind of people, these parasites on society that sit in the back of the room and get even more hammered before the wedding then they already were. But, nonetheless, this day wasn't about me, it was about my friend that I have known my entire life - our mom's were pregnant with us together and we were neighbors until I was at least eleven. She had no idea I was attending which made it extra special when she saw me and realized that I had made the trip back to be there for her. So, we had a few drinks and interesting conversations with people over a very bland dinner. Afterwords, we ate cake and then watched the father and daughter dance. This was about the time we were itching to leave so we made our way out saying good-byes to everyone and then finally broke free and drove home. This being the main reason I went back to Ohio for the weekend, I decided to leave the next day (Sunday) late at night so that I could hang out with my dad and go to "The Fair at New Boston." Knowing that our flight was at 7:55 we took our time and walked around for a few hours and then went home to pack, which took all of about five minutes. So we watched a movie and awaited the one-hour drive to the Columbus airport. Time finally rolls around to leave and we're off, making it there in perfect time at 6:55 one hour before the flight takes off. Well, we walk inside and proceed to the ticket counter where we were greeted with nothing at all, no ticket agent behind the counter, no self check-in and no bag drop. There are a few more people standing around wondering the same thing we were - what the heck is going on. So a TSA agent walks by and I ask "excuse me, do you know where everyone is?" With which he responded "ahh no sorry man, I've been down there all day." Perfect. So we start to talk with people around and realize we were all on the same 7:55 flight to Dallas/Fort Worth. Well come to find out, the time on the Internet was wrong and the flight actually was just pulling back from the gate, at 6:55. By this time we are completely mind boggled and pissed as all hell, but it was out of our control so I call my dad to come back and pick us up to drive another hour back home. Guess we will have to go out tomorrow, right? Well the only flight that is open on this lovely Labor Day was the 6:00 a.m. so we had to wake up at 3:30 and drive back to the airport making sure we were still there an hour early. We finally get back to where we were the night before - and there is actually life. So we went through the whole airport process and made it half way across the country to Fort Worth before 8:30 a.m. After this, I can't wait for our next three-day weekend!
